It's an amazing experience to see how we all evolve from film making. I see some similarity in you with me. You were not there in the apartment, but I swore I annoyed everybody at least one time. And there is this mixed and constant battling feeling about guilt and gratitude - which doesn't bring you ease and comfort.

You got to be careful right here.

I mean, that is all well and good, but, it is also possible that a year from now you might experience a reversal of those feelings.

I say this because I knew exactly what you're talking about at the end of the post - that feeling of calm after letting go of something you've been holding on to and which perhaps you shouldn't. It feels like you've made an important discovery about yourself, an epiphany. And I had that when I was holidaying with family in Australia many years back, when I was trying very hard to figure out the story I had been seriously working on in my head (in fact, my first written screenplay), when suddenly, on a long drive along the Pacific coast, it dawned on me: let go. And I felt instantly relaxed, happy, maybe even enlightened, and I enjoyed the rest of the holiday.

I am still thinking about that story today.

But on the other hand, that doesn't necessarily mean your epiphany isn't valid. Maybe you really will be happier and more productive purely as a writer, and that won't change.

Yay for that feeling. Yay for signs. Even just by reading this, I felt a positive vibe transmitted across the internet. Good stuff, Arivind. May the Universe continue sending signs and opportunities your way. ^-^

This is quite interesting - http://www.pleasedsheep.com/forums/topic/9080-jonathan-gems-on-the-abolition-of-the-ukfc/

We could use more people like you guys. It's very inspirational seeing people just get off their arse and get it done by themselves, and those are the sort of films I like to watch.

I predict an indie wave in this country as technology becomes cheaper and hopefully it'll kickstart the industry again.

Comment on What Is More Important? Story Logic Or Emotional Impact by Sebastian

As soon as I saw the post title I knew the answer! They're both equally important; and I actually think a great story can come from one that's almost entirely logic-oriented, another that's almost entirely emotional-oriented, and any point in the continuum between those two.

In other words, I think it's irrelevant how much of both the story contains, only that it should be the right amount for that particular story.

A movie where the story logic is completely watertight makes you swear in admiration, and your brain explodes at all the epiphanies the movie brings to you. A movie with great emotional impact ... makes your heart feel. A movie that has a lot of both simply gets the advantages of both sides.

I like how you use the metaphor of Malaysia being a teenager in how it connects with The Joshua Tapes. Furthermore I like how Sebastian asked you that question which forced some introspection on your part. It's always important to get caught up in the message, not the details. The only way I can describe it is like starting a blog, Twitter, Facebook page, etc cos it's the "trendy" thing to do. But what use is all of that if you don't actually have something to SAY?

I'm proud of you, Arivind. I look forward to seeing The Joshua Tapes!
